Loss Can Be The Catalyst That Creates Your Life

Loss Can Be The Catalyst That Creates Your Best Life

By | Personal Growth | 4 Comments

We give our experiences in life an emotional identity.

It took me time to understand that.

The events in our lives are truly neutral, it’s our thoughts that give it the powerful emotion that we connect with the experience. The event or circumstance has no meaning until we give it meaning and every event and circumstance in our life you have the power to attach positive thinking and meaning to.

I know that some of you are thinking, that’s cr*p.

Truthfully to create your best life you have to be responsible for your experiences!

Watch this video and see the power of putting time between an event and the thought or meaning you give it.

We are not always responsible for the events in our life, but we are always responsible for our view of the experience. Each experience we choose how we view it. Often we accept the thoughts that have formulated from our past experiences as fact.

I remember saying, “I can’t believe this happened to me,” over and over again after my daughter died. I didn’t understand there was a place inside mw where I got to choose my view of the experience.

When we raise our awareness of these thoughts and change them we are taking control of our life.

We move from being a victim of our past to being responsible for our life. Here is where the loss or challenging event can be the catalyst that moves us forward to create and live a life without limits!

To create your best life begin with your thoughts. Ask yourself, “How do I view my most challenging life events?”

It’s this shift in thinking that is required to take control of our lives to move past the pain, grief, guilt,  emotions that we are holding onto from our past experiences.

We would love to hear your thoughts. Leave us a comment below and as always feel free to share this post with your family and friends.

turn your life around

How To Turn Your Life Around Is Within You

By | Personal Growth | 4 Comments

Trust The Bigger Picture. Even When It Feels Like Everything Is Going Wrong – Trust It’s Going Right!

I remember hearing advice similar to this after my daughter passed away and honestly I didn’t understand and hearing it I became angry.

It’s easy to trust the bigger picture when life is going well, but when challenges drop us to our knees it’s hard to trust and find the good in it.

Watch this video. I share some thoughts on how to turn your life around and trust in the bigger picture.

Whether it is the death of a loved one, the challenges of divorce, loss of innocence, or serious illness. Whatever it is we all have had challenges and we can choose to turn our life around. To live a life without limits.

After my daughter died I felt like I had been cheated. I complained about how life wasn’t fair. How no one understood what it was like. That she didn’t deserve to die.

You see if we choose to think about how unfair or bad our life is or has been we choose to live our life as a victim. It’s like drinking  a small dose of poison every day.

Every single moment of every single day we choose how we experience and live our lives with the thoughts we choose to believe.

If we choose to see gratitude – forgiveness – and joy we choose to live empowered.

Today I know her life was a blessing, that her life had a purpose and that her purpose was served. It’s a choice to live empowered, grateful and find the joy in each day.

How have the challenges in your life created your thoughts and beliefs? How can you change the beliefs or thoughts to be more empowered? Leave us a comment below we would love to hear from you.

Live a life without limits

make a difference, live a life without limits

You Make A Difference In The World!

By | Claiming Your Story | 28 Comments

make a difference, live a life without limits“God tell her I’m sorry. Tell her I love her.”

Two doctors stood in the doorway. Arms crossed, noticeably uncomfortable, they gazed at the floor. We’re sorry he said. He paused and looked up at me and then away again.

“We did everything we could, it just wasn’t enough to save her.”

We stood in silence. We were numb. Seconds passed before it started to sink in, before we really heard and understood what they said.

How could my beautiful little girl be gone?

Why didn’t I hear her go out the front door?
How could I let her drown?
How do I tell her big brother and sister that they don’t have a little sister anymore?

“Would you like to see her before you go?” the emergency room physician asked.

Go, I thought to myself, Go, how do I go and leave her here?

“Yes.”

We held her and I’m glad we did but it was strange her body was empty and cold.

We wept.

The angels are watching over us. This day was no different, but it took me some time before I understood.

This was the day Serena was called home.

I didn’t know the plan. I thought she was staying with us. I thought I was going to die first.

I knew she was special but I didn’t know how special and how short her life was designed to be.

I didn’t know her short life was going to be the biggest lesson in mine!

Not to say my lesson was more difficult than others because it’s not. We each have our own experiences and lessons whether it’s the loss of a loved one, divorce, loss of innocence, cancer to battle or something else.

There are some amazing hard earned experiences and lessons inside you!

You Make a Difference in the World When You Share Your Experiences!

Your story is uniquely you just as much as your thumbprint, and only you can share it. The world is waiting for you and your message! Know that your life IS the example others want.

I know it can be a scary thought to but yourself out there, vulnerable for the whole world to see.

So what happens when things get scary?

In our mind we start to down play our potential, our ego steps in. And thoughts like, I don’t really know anything, I don’t have the time, I don’t have the money, it’s just not me or I’m too shy, start to flood our mind.

It’s amazing what we can talk ourselves out of.  But the truth is, it’s even more amazing what we can create once we let go of the fear and self-doubt.

So how do you go from where you are now to sharing your story and creating your life without limits?

Write down what your life without limits would look like and then attach the WHY. The why is a vital piece!

When you hit some bumps along the way, and you will, we ALL do, look back at your why and remind yourself how far you have come, how strong you have been and how your life will change when you honor your story and share your message.

So now it comes to when. When do you start?

“Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.”  ― Mother Teresa

Yes now is the time. If we don’t take action while the thought is fresh in our mind it soon disappears. So now is the time to start.

Life is very precious and there is something inside You calling You forward. The experiences, lessons, and people in your life have been placed in your world for a purpose.

Your story benefits the world!

Your experiences matter!

It’s sharing your story with the world that honors your past experiences and transforms your life and the lives of the people around you.

So what is your next step?

new year new you

NEW YEAR, NEW YOU, NEW WARDROBE or not?

By | Fashion & Style, Women's Lifestyle | 3 Comments

new year new youIt’s a New Year, it’s a New You, it’s a New everything, Or is it?  It’s that time of year when everyone heads to the gym to begin their new regimen.

The airwaves are filled with commercials touting the latest in weight loss promotions from all the usual suspects. It’s enough to make anyone want to throw out the butter and sugar even if they don’t have a pound to lose. (Not that ridding your shelves of those items is a bad thing!)

But I’m not your weight loss guru, or your exercise trainer, I’m simply a girl (ok, woman) who loves fashion and beauty and wants everyone to feel great about themselves regardless of weight, size or even hair color!

And since it’s a New Year – it’s time to take stock of who we were last year and who we want to be this year and what better way to do it than by enhancing our image and putting our best selves out there for the world to admire.

BABY IT’S COLD OUT THERE…

Yes, the temperature across most of the country hovers in the “Oh so cold” zone, even here in Northern California, and yet magazines and stores are prompting us to buy, buy, buy – those adorable salmon colored shorts with the bright green t shirt.

You know, for our upcoming “cruise”. The resort wear has hit the shelves.

Really – even Target has its bathing suits blaringly displayed as you enter the store. (I went to search for toasty ski clothes, but nooooo).

Not to be disrespectful to those of you gathering your string bikinis and crocheted cover-ups as you plan for your winter getaway, but let’s be real. As tempted as I am by the really fun, bright colors in the stores, I know that in a few short months, when it is still cold outside, all those items will be on sale!

So, I’m here to propose something. Should you get the urge, in between paying bills and cleaning up the holiday messes, to head to your nearest store to purchase a little something to cheer you up – DON’T DO IT!

Instead, head for your closet. That’s right, the very same closet into which you peer and say, “Oh, but I have nothing fun to wear!”.

Just so you know, I tried this experiment, because I didn’t want to propose something I hadn’t attempted myself. Go into that closet, or wardrobe, or chest of drawers and find the brightest, most spring-like item you can.

FYI, I discovered an old turquoise cashmere sweater that I thought I had gotten rid of. Perfect color to inject some spring into my January wardrobe.

The style is a bit outdated, but hey it’s cashmere and a beautiful color and well….you know. I paired it with a white t-shirt (good year round item) and a scarf of many colors. The scarf is a wintery scarf in cotton, with dark navy and black, purple and a hint of turquoise.

It was just what I needed to make me feel peppy and pretty in the freezing cold. A burst of Spring without spending a cent, and meanwhile I found a few items to donate while in the midst of “shopping” my closet. Please know that I am not suggesting you break out the white shorts with black tights (for warmth).

All I’m hinting at, is that if you search through your existing clothes, you WILL unearth a treasure or two that you can start wearing now to make yourself feel oh so cheery.

new year, new you

SPRING CLEANING IN JANUARY

I think I’ve mentioned this one or twenty times, but DONATE and clear that clutter. Get a start on Spring Cleaning now. SO when the sales come around in March and April (of all the resort wear in the stores now), you will know what you want/need to update your wardrobe.

I truly believe that when you donate items you really know you will never wear again, you are not only clearing the clutter literally, you are making an opening for other things, material or not, to come into your life.

It’s a great way to start Your New Year, New You, Life Without Limits!

Just as you would take a deep cleansing breath in yoga, in order to make space for new fresh air to enter and cleanse your body, when you rid your closet of the items merely taking up space, you are declaring that I no longer need you, but that which I do need and desire will come into my life.

IF YOU SIMPLY MUST SHOP…

Now is the time to hit the sales for items such as Cashmere anything. Retailers want to clear their own clutter in order to make even more space for the resort wear and spring merchandise lurking in the stock rooms.

It is also a great time to check out boots. If you are fortunate enough to find a pair in your size – there are still at least three months this season to look adorable in a pair of boots, short or tall. Boots can make your outfit rock!  You can wear them well into spring with a short or long skirts, no tights required in warmer weather. They really dress up a simple pair of leggings or work out bottoms, if you just throw on a longer sweater or shirt.

GO FORTH AND BE CUTE!

And, my motto for the New Year – yup….Go Forth and Be Cute!  I am over the age where people call me cute, but I still like to wear cute clothes and I just LOVE the saying.

So, I challenge all of you who want to take your life to the limit – to take a look at YOU in 2013.

What do you want others to see when they meet you?

Put on some color, apply some bright lipstick, do what feels right to you, but do something to enhance your life and show up!

Really and truly SHOW UP in 2013!

While you work on your new year, new you life without limits, make your appearance count. GO FORTH AND BE CUTE!

To Your New Year New You,

Kim

journaling for self discovery

Journaling For Self-Discovery

By | Empowered Women, Women's Health | 2 Comments

We all have experiences from our early childhood through to today.  And honestly some of them weren’t that great. Some of them were hugely traumatic.

You have been through the trauma, the hardest time, now what? What are your options?

You want to get rid of the feelings that were so painful as fast as you can. We bury them or try to brush it off or push them away, hoping they will disappear.

Journaling for self-discovery has been a powerful tool for me.

Watch the video to hear my thoughts.

After my daughter passed away the world moved on. People went back to work and on the outside everything was, “back to normal.” On the inside I was filled with emotions.

Journaling was a private way to open up my feelings and heal.

Sometimes your feelings are really fresh it’s easy to know what to write about because they are bubbling inside in you like a volcano, exploding at will.

Other times your emotions are buried deep and you’re not really aware of them and how they are affecting your life as an adult today.

The struggles of childhood, the confusion of growing up, these feelings can all get buried deep in our subconscious mind. For years I carried around feelings from childhood that I wasn’t even aware where still there until journaling, which allowed them to come to the surface and then I was able to feel and release them.

I told myself that, “That’s a long time ago. It doesn’t really matter anymore.”

But if those feelings of hurt, anger, whatever they are, if they are there and buried they are affecting you today and holding you back from being your greatest you. Stopping you from living a life without limits, and sharing your experiences and story with the world.

Journaling is a tool of self-discovery that allows you to explore your feelings and then for you to feel them let them flow through you, and release them. It’s through the release that allows you to step out beyond what you believe is possible now and to live a life without limits.

It is a path of inquiry and discovery that allows you to be your greatest…you!

Express yourself anyway you desire through pictures, drawings, poems, and musical lyrics. Whatever moves you. Find a time and place that allows journaling to be a part of your daily routine. Like any other habit or behavior we have to open time and space for it.

It takes courage to open up old wounds and pain but it sets you free!

We would live to hear your comments feel free to leave us a comment below. If you would like to share your experiences with journaling we would love to hear about them.

As always we would love to have you share this post with your friends and family.
